    Therapy for

    Sudden & Traumatic Loss

There was a before, and then there was a phone call, or a knock, or a moment, and nothing has been the same shape since.

Sudden loss is not just grief arriving early. It is grief fused with shock, and it needs a different kind of care than the losses people expect you to have.

The Mind That Replays the Moment

You may find yourself returning to it constantly. Where you were when you heard. The exact words. What you did in the minutes after, as if reviewing the footage could produce a different ending.

This replay is not morbid and it is not a choice. It is the mind trying to process something that arrived faster than the mind works. It tends to be worst in quiet moments, at night, or in anniversaries of the hour rather than the date.

In therapy we work gently with the replay rather than ordering it to stop, and it usually loosens as the larger grief gets somewhere to go.

    Grief with No Goodbye

There was no last conversation, or the last conversation was about something trivial, and now it has to carry the weight of a final one. Many people would trade almost anything for one more ordinary afternoon.

Unfinished sentences do not disappear on their own. The apology never made, the question never asked, the thing you always meant to say. We work with those directly, finding ways to say them that do not require the other person to be here.

None of this is pretending. It is how the relationship gets to continue in a different form instead of freezing at the moment of the call.

    A Body Still on Alarm

Long after the event, your nervous system may still be braced. Phone ringing at odd hours spikes your heart. You check on the living compulsively. You cannot tolerate not knowing where people are.

This is the trauma woven into the grief, and it is why time alone does not heal this kind of loss the way people promise. The alarm has to be stood down, not waited out.

We work on the body's alarm alongside the grief, so that you can remember them without the remembering itself being an emergency.
