    Online Therapy in San Francisco

San Francisco rewards output. Ship the thing, take the next role, keep the pace. It works until something in your life stops cooperating with the schedule, and then there is no obvious place to put it.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California, and I see clients by video. If you are physically located in San Francisco, we can work together from wherever you actually are that day.

When Achievement Became the Whole Identity

You have been good at this for a long time. Promotions, funding rounds, a title people recognize. Somewhere in there, doing well stopped being something you did and became the only reliable evidence that you are all right.

That arrangement holds until a layoff, a breakup, a diagnosis, or a death makes performance impossible. Then the question underneath gets loud: if I am not producing, who am I to the people around me?

We work on that question directly rather than helping you get back to sprinting sooner.

A City People Move To, Away From Everyone Who Knows Them

A lot of people here arrived for a job. Parents are in another state or another country. The friendships that would have carried you through a hard year are three time zones out and asleep when you need them.

So the hard thing gets handled alone, efficiently, at night. It gets described to colleagues as busy. Grief in particular does badly under these conditions, because it needs witnesses and there is nobody in the room.

Therapy is not a substitute for a community. It is a place where the whole thing can be said out loud to someone who is not going to change the subject.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

My focus is grief and loss, recovery from narcissistic abuse and relationship trauma, relationship endings including separation and divorce, and the pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting years.

I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which is less about arguing yourself out of feelings and more about making them carryable while you build a life that matches what you value.

Sessions are entirely online. All you need is a private hour and a door that closes.

Sharon Meyers is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker offering telehealth sessions to adults located anywhere in California.

You are allowed to stop performing for one hour a week.
