Therapy for

# Single Parenting

Every decision, every bill, every nightmare at 2am, every form, every fever, every first day of school. There is no one to hand any of it to, and there has not been for a while.

Single parents often resist calling it hard, because their children might hear, or because others have it worse. It is hard. Both things can be true.

## Every Decision, Alone

The weight of single parenting is not only the labor. It is the deciding. School choices, medical calls, discipline, money, moves, each one made without a second mind you trust, and each one second-guessed afterward in the quiet.

Decision fatigue is real and it compounds. By evening many single parents describe having nothing left, not from the doing but from the unbroken chain of judgment calls.

Therapy gives you one place a week where someone else helps you think, which sounds small and is not.

## No One to Hand Over To

There is no tap out. When you are sick, you parent. When you are heartbroken, you parent. When you have not slept, you parent, and then you drive.

The relentlessness does something specific to a person over time: it makes rest feel illicit and asking for help feel like failure, because the whole structure depends on you not stopping.

We work on building actual support rather than the theoretical kind, and on the beliefs that keep you from using it, because a parent with no margins is one illness away from crisis.

## The Guilt About What You Cannot Provide

The second income you cannot magic up. The other parent who is absent or worse. The experiences you see other children get. The guilt is constant, and it points in every direction at once.

Here is what the research and the clinical reality both say: children do not need two parents. They need one parent who is steady, honest, and not destroyed by the arrangement. The last part is the one the guilt attacks.

Taking care of yourself is not taking from your children. It is the main thing standing between them and the hardship you are afraid of passing on.
